So many great narrators, i actually went to NaturesTemper to hear part 4, but the music hear, the atmosphere created, please never ask me who i enjoy listening to the most, because your all amazing Dark Somnium. NaturesTemper 's read. G.M. Danielson. CreepsMcPasta. eepen. HorrorBabble. .TheStickyPaddle (Creepy Gaming) And so many others, amazing narrations amd stories from all of you It's difficult to listen to everyone because they are all amazing, i could be listening to eepen and if i see a new upload over on Let's read, i would immediately go over there Or i could listen to HorrorBabble and for 2 days (lovecraft fan) and completely listen to an All Nighter over on G.M. Danielson for idfk how long However, i tend to immediately latch onto The Dark Somnium due to him creating and unique atmospheric tone with his narrations while using his voice to portray different characters, for instance any Female characters I can hear the masculine voice, but i have no idea how your feminine voices. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of other narrators/storytellers who can do such a thing, like CreepsMcPasta for example. But there's just a touch of something extra that draws me back to hear. Like Birthday Cake and Sweet Potato Pie, i love them both but there's always a little extra that Cheesecake gives which brings me back for more.
I started reading this book but in just the first few pages i quickly realized it was super hard to follow. There are certain movies — the recent Adam Sandler hit Uncut Gems is now popularly classed among them — that keep you under high stress until the credits roll. Eliza Hittman’s ( Beach Rats) Sundance drama Never Rarely Sometimes Always, about a teenage girl trying to get an abortion, will likely make you nervous and uneasy throughout, but there are flashes of respite. And all of these safe moments, where you can finally take a breath, take place inside a Planned Parenthood. Sidney Flanigan — a remarkable discovery — stars as Autumn, an intense 17-year-old girl living in rural, conservative Pennsylvania, who discovers early in the film that she’s pregnant. Terrified of her affectionate mother and casually cruel stepfather finding out, and receiving little understanding from the ostensibly well-meaning doctor at her local clinic, she confides in her sympathetic cousin Skylar (Talia Ryder), and the girls hatch a plan. Running on desperation and stolen cash, they take a bus to New York, where Autumn won’t need parental consent to get an abortion, and where they have no one to turn to and no place to stay. Writer-director Hittman resists the urge, again and again, to lean into sentiment, and the film succeeds as brilliantly as it does because she is vigilant not to fall down easy traps of romanticizing or wallowing in Autumn’s misfortune — nor, it is worth noting, does she judge it. There’s no need to heavily editorialize here; Hittman is an assured enough filmmaker to portray this drama honestly and non-manipulatively, trusting her audience to interpret the complicated heartbreak of Autumn’s predicament without having to explain it to them. Focus Features The details of this pregnancy’s conception are irrelevant to the issue at hand, and Hittman doesn’t distract us with them, revealing only what we need to know but sharing little, terrible hints at so much else. Flanigan and Ryder, both in their big-screen debuts, are highly natural actors and a compelling pair, visibly bonded by the shared indignities and unique vulnerability of teenage girlhood. The devastating scene that gives the film its title, and Flanigan’s astonishing performance in it, is worth the price of admission alone. Never Rarely takes place in what is at once a magical, far-off New York, where Autumn and Skylar float through neon-lit nights playing arcade dance games and sharing pastries, and a stark, too-tangible reality. One particularly effective device comes in the form of the girls’ unwieldy shared suitcase that never leaves their side as they navigate a labyrinth of sidewalks; Hittman takes the time to let us feel the weight of it, lingering on them struggling to get it on the subway, up some stairs, onto a table — and that’s not to mention the other burdens, more space-efficient but no less heavy, following them at the same time. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on the same day as the March for Life in Washington, where Donald Trump became the first sitting president to speak at the annual anti-abortion event. A woman’s right to choose is one of the defining issues of our time; Never Rarely Sometimes Always is an urgent, extraordinary film for this very moment. The film, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2020, follows a pair of teenage girls in rural Pennsylvania, who travel to New York City to seek out medical help after an unintended pregnancy. The story was inspired by Savita Halappanavar, an Indian woman living in Ireland, who was denied an abortion by the staff at University Hospital Galway, on the grounds that granting her request would be illegal under Irish law. This ultimately resulted in her death from septic miscarriage, which served as a rallying cry for efforts to repeal the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution of Ireland, which prohibited abortion in most instances. Halappanavar’s death led to the passing of the Thirty-sixth Amendment of the Constitution, which repealed the Eighth Amendment, and signed into law the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act in 2018. For Hittman, reading about Halappanavar’s case was devastating. “I was very sad and started reading about how far women in Ireland would have to travel at that time if they needed an abortion, and thinking about what that journey looks like in other countries, and decided to explore that dilemma in the context of our current climate, ” she said. In “Never Rarely Sometimes Always, ” Autumn, played by Flanigan, is a teenager who works as a cashier in a rural Pennsylvania supermarket. Faced with an unintended pregnancy and without viable alternatives for an abortion in her home state, she and her cousin Skylar (Ryder), put together some cash, pack a suitcase, and board a bus to New York City, which is entirely unfamiliar to both of them. Flanigan said she was drawn to the project because of Hittman’s sensitive, true-to-life script. “I loved how grounded in reality it was, and it was kind of magical in its own way, ” the actress said. And as to what informed her lauded performance, she said: “I just drew from that universal pain that all of these women are feeling, and trying to maintain these rights that are always under threat. ” Co-star Ryder was also drawn to Hittman’s writing. “For me, it was also the script that drew me, and the role that I play, and the fierce love and protection she has for her cousin, ” Ryder said. “And also it was kind of an untold story, and so just seeing that made me want to be a part of it. ” Hittman revealed that she was partly motivated by Cristian Mungiu’s 2007 Communist Romania-set drama, “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, ” which told the story of two students who try to get an illegal abortion, during the final years of dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu’s reign. She loved the film, but found inspiration in its flaws. “What really resonated with me was a secondary character who is pregnant, and is a bit shamed for being pregnant, and is considered a little juvenile, careless, and reckless, and I thought, even though the film is stunning, its execution was a bit insensitive towards a character who was actually in crisis, ” she said. “And that’s something I thought about a lot in writing my film. ” For research, Hittman spoke to not just women in similar predicaments as her leads, but also the people whose job it is to assist them. “I talked with social workers at several clinics, like Planned Parenthood in New York, and just tried to hear their stories about their encounters, and tried to empathize and think about what they go through as well, ” she said. Since its Sundance premiere, the film has been well received by critics, scoring a 100% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. IndieWire’s Kate Erbland called it a “candid abortion drama” that “hits hard. ” Sundance praises its “bracing clarity and understated emotion, ” describing it as a story of a teenage girl “making an arduous journey, through which a bigger statement emerges — that of reclaiming her body and her spirit. ” The film is scheduled to be released on March 13, 2020, by Focus Features. It was also selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition section at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival. The restraint in Eliza Hittman‘s directing is unmatched and Sidney Flanigan’s performance will no doubt remain one of my favorites through the end of the year. Gonna go rewatch Beach Rats. NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS is a deeply personal yet universal look at teenage pregnancy. Think of it as the opposite of Juno. Breathtakingly shows us every detail with sincere empathy. Sidney Flanigan gives an astonishing performance that communicates so much with so little. It is always incredibly refreshing to experience a film like this, one so unflinchingly honest yet steeped in compassion and empathy. It lingers in certain moments for uncomfortably long periods of time, precisely because that's how its protagonist is experiencing her situation. It understands her pain and trepidation and loneliness, and it's a prime example that you can still make a closed off character feel raw and vulnerable. A lot of that is due to Sidney Flanigan’s superb performance, one that manages to beautifully incorporate conflicting emotions into a seemingly blank expression. Her performance lives in the subtle changes in body language as she moves through the world around her, one filled with both perpetual threats and loving embraces. She… A quiet teenager named Autumn (newcomer Sidney Flanigan) looks like she carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. She’s introduced singing her heart out at a talent show—after her classmates have all either lip synced or done dance routines. There’s something melancholy in Autumn that’s not in most of her peers, and her only friend seems to be her cousin and co-worker Skylar (Talia Ryder). It’s not long before we learn what’s weighing on Autumn’s mind—she’s 17 and pregnant. Eliza Hittman, the writer/director of “Beach Rats, ” returns to Sundance with her best work yet, a powerful drama that’s mostly a character study of two fully-realized young women but also a commentary on how dangerous it is to be a teenage girl in America. With stunning performances from two completely genuine young leads, this is a movie people will talk about all year. FULL REVIEW TONIGHT Sundance #1 Eliza Hittman produces masterpieces: A. Never B. Rarely C. Sometimes D. Always ✅ 3 for 3. Perfection. This might form a feticide triptych with VERA DRAKE (2004) and 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS and 2 DAYS (2007). It's harrowing in a different way, told through quiet, little moments that italicize eyes and faces, and bruise through gestures, sighs and hushed, unspoken looks. Faces will do most of the heavy-lifting here, sometimes through unbearable stretches that communicate volumes about why a teenager would want to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. As filmmaker Eliza Hittman states, "I'm just kind of interested in a cinema that's more behavioral and gestural. This unspoken bond. I think the film, at its core, is about new ways in which women help each other through difficult experiences. " The film is not just about the devastating lengths… Recent reviews Recognising your own alienation goes hand in hand with bursting through it. This is a process which, like a glass cage shattering into millions of tiny pieces, is both painful and spectacular to behold. I want to start by saying that this film is absolutely essential to the society we live in today. Stories like these NEED to be told. That being said, it suffers from a lack of soul. The film is bland in terms of its stylistic choices; opting to establish a harsh tone and relying on performances to give the audience relief in such a grim story. The performances themselves weren't bad, but rather the two main women should have been flipped. Something this film does do well is its pacing and heartfelt writing that gives the audience a great perspective. I'm hoping people can watch this an finally empathize better with women suffering from abuse and the suppression of choice. My review can be found omn Solzy at the Movies. Hittman's furious slant is not at odds w/her naturalism Eliza Hittman’s Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always is one of those Sundance films that will surely get people talking. It is harsh, unforgiving, and frank about its subject matter – exactly as it should be. Heavy topics like a teenage girl desperately trying to get an abortion (while hiding it from her parents) deserve serious attention because they aren’t something that should be sugarcoated. Hittman’s film not only serves to challenge viewers to pay direct attention, but also to open the eyes of the ignorant as well. The film opens with Autumn (Sidney Flanigan) coming off a seemingly abusive relationship with her boyfriend. We soon realize that the boy has gotten the seventeen-year-old pregnant. Autumn ultimately decides not to tell her… Autumn is seventeen years old, pregnant, and, worst of all, living in a man’s world. At Sundance, Eliza Hittman’s terrific NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS was reduced in daily parlay to “the abortion movie, ” but this portrait of aggrieved honesty and newly forged faith in your fellow woman is so much more. What’s most curious is where Hittman establishes her characters’ challenges. Paying for the medical procedure and booking an appointment is merely a series of off-screen cash hand-offs in easily booked appointments with sweetly supportive staffers. It can certainly be read as a vision of an incredibly fortunate young woman, making the actual medical process look so easy that NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS feels like a Planned Parenthood advertisement meant… Writer-director Eliza Hittman takes a stark and unflinching look at abortion in “Never Rarely Sometimes Always, ” a drama that doesn’t talk about a teen girl’s wrenching decision than show the emotional stakes of making it. Seventeen-year-old Autumn (played with soul and steel by Sidney Flanigan) is feeling ill. She goes to a clinic in her rural Pennsylvania town, where she is offered a “self-administered” test — the same one she could have bought at the pharmacy. The women there give her an ultrasound, and tell Autumn she’s about 10 weeks pregnant. They give her brochures about adoption and show a horror-show propaganda video. (Hittman never says it outright, but the “clinic” has the earmarks of an anti-abortion “crisis pregnancy center. ”) Read the full review at The Movie Cricket: Popular Lists More.
